Gümüşhane Üniversitesi 31 Mayıs 2008 tarih ve 26892 sayılı Resmi Gazetede yayımlanarak yürürlüğe giren 5765 sayılı kanunla kurulmuştur.
Gümüşhane'de Gümüşhane Üniversitesi adıyla kurulan bu Üniversite Rektörlüğe bağlı olarak yeni kurulan İletşim Fakültesi, daha önce KTÜ'ne bağlı iken adı ve bağlantısı değiştirilerek Rektörlüğe bağlanan Gümüşhane Mühendislik Fakültesi, İktisadi ve İdari Bilimler Fakültesi, Gümüşhane Sağlık Yüksekokulu (Aşağıda belirtildiği üzere daha sonra fakülteye dönüştürüldü), Gümüşhane Meslek Yüksek Okulu, Şiran Meslek Yüksekokulu, Gümüşhane Sağlık Hizmetleri Meslek Yükseokulu ile Erzincan Üniversitesi Rektörlüğüne bağlı iken adı...

The Rector Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim Zeybek published a message condemning the heinous attack that took place in Istanbul Beyoğlu Istiklal Street. The rector stated the following in his message: “We have been informed with great sadness that 6 of our citizens lost their lives and 81 of our citizens were injured in the bomb attack that took place in Istanbul Beyoğlu Istiklal Street at around 16.20 yesterday. The fact that two of our 6 citizens who lost their lives come from Gümüşhane has doubled our sadness. I wish God's mercy on the citizens who lost their lives as a result of the heinous attack and a quick recovery to the wounded.
